The IT Operations Engineer is responsible for designing and building a stable operating environment and attaining maximum reliability of the technology infrastructure. Accountable for designing and maintaining the IT environment and coordinating with other infrastructure and application engineers. Accountable for acting as a subject matter expert for build requests related partially or in totality to area of expertise.
The Team Lead is also responsible for performing level 3 incident escalation, supporting capacity planning, supporting problem management and maintaining the service catalog for the services in scope of the team.
Key responsibilities are;
Technical - 50%
• Accountable for designing and building stable infrastructure components for the area of expertise
• Defines and maintains hardware, operating system, and firmware standards for area of expertise
• Defines and maintains service catalog content for the area of expertise
• Defines the designs to meet the service levels in the service catalog
• Develops and maintains design and architecture blueprints - Defines, documents, and maintains standards for area of expertise
• Acts as a subject matter expert for the area of experience
• Acts as a level 3 incident escalation point
• Accountable for capacity planning
• Communicates critical information to management, other IT staff and users as appropriate.
• Works with other infrastructure teams to ensure effective infrastructure security, integrity and recoverability procedures are in place at all times. Regularly participates in testing the disaster recovery procedures.
• Participates in projects for maintaining and developing the infrastructure for area of expertise
Administrative - 50%
• Accountable for the lifecycle of the services in scope of area of expertise (see qualifications)
• Supports the activities of problem management
• Accountable for Knowledge Base documentation for activities and steps related to incident resolution, request completion
• Coordinates with IT Operations Manager, IT Operations Team Leads and Technology Stakeholders
• Shares acquired knowledge with other associates to maintain and foster teamwork among staff.
• 7-9 years of experience as an Engineer / Architect with VMWare ESX (including VirtualCenter, ESXi, VMWare 3, 3.5 and 4.0) and Windows Server Architecture (2003, 2008)- Has lead successfully several platform implementation in area of expertise (virtualization and designing/implementing virtual computing architecture)
• Experience with Windows Server 2008 - Windows Service Resource Manager a plus
• VMWare engineer certification a requirement
• Work experience in IT Operations is a plus
• Work experience at large, standards driven IT organizations is highly desired. Financial services industry experience is valued.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.
• Preference for working within a structured, stable environment. Demonstrated ability to be successful in a metrics based performance culture.
• Knowledge of leading practices such as ITIL, CoBIT, CMMI. Certification is highly desirable.
• Commitment to excellence in customer service and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work effectively and independently in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
• Must be able to work outside normal business hours in order to perform diagnosis and/or implementation of product releases or changes, so that normal workflow is not interrupted.
• Ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision.
• BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related discipline; or equivalent work experience.
• Storage certification is required.
• Rotated on-call coverage is required, including weekends.
